Project Homecoming helps people who are struggling to rebuild their homes and their lives after Hurricane Katrina. This position is responsible for the administration of this project. The list of job responsibilities below should not be considered all-inclusive. Because Project Homecoming is a dynamic organization, this position description may evolve with time. The Project Coordinator must possess flexibility in working in this position. Responsibilities: Administration • Administer the day to day operations of the project office • Facilitate weekly staff meetings for Project Homecoming staff and monthly Brown Bag meetings for the Disaster Recovery Team • Represent Project Homecoming at the Greater New Orleans Disaster Recovery Partnership (GNODRP) and coordinate Project Homecoming’s representation on GNODRP Committees • Participate in monthly meetings of the Crescent Alliance Recovery Effort (CARE) and St. Bernard Recovery Committee • Track information for the evaluation and accountability of this project. Work with the office manager in maintaining accurate statistics regarding number of volunteers, volunteer hours worked and number of projects. Communicate statistics quarterly to PDA and GNODRP • Work with administrative assistant and office manager to insure that the database for tracking cases is maintained and updated • Supervise the staff involved in this project: work with the presbytery to hire staff, develop and revise job descriptions, evaluate performance, and provide staff oversight • Address all personnel issues in a timely manner • Coordinate the recruitment, placement, supervision, and evaluation of long- term volunteers who work with this initiative • Complete all required reporting on long term volunteers (i.e. Delta Service Corps In-Kind Reports, Mid Term Evaluations, Time Sheets and Leave Requests) • Monitor maintenance of the warehouse and a fleet of vehicles • Meet regularly with the Associate Presbyter for Congregational Development and Disaster Recovery , who supervises this position Project Management • Work with the construction coordinator to procure rebuild projects from the long term recovery committees; rebuild committee roundtable and case management agencies • Develop relationships with clients and respond to concerns and inquiries related to the rebuild of their home. • Evaluate viability of and ensure funding for each project. • Meet with the construction manager and homeowner(s) before work begins to complete initial paperwork • Approve each project by signing off on the “Case Review Sheet” • Develop and maintain relationships with the project funders and learn each funding source’s procedures for delivery of resources • Establish a working knowledge of each project and develop a general awareness of the budget status of each • Work with construction managers to assist homeowners in responding to unmet needs • Review monthly “Project Ledger Report” provided by presbytery office Volunteer Management • With the assistance of the site coordinators, public relations coordinator, and the PDA reservation call center, coordinate the recruitment of volunteer work teams • Provide backup and assistance to site coordinators in the implementation of the youth policy and scheduled holidays • Oversee planning of work for volunteers housed by church sites and PDA Volunteer Villages to insure the smooth scheduling of volunteer work teams • Respond to inquiries from groups seeking information about volunteering in the greater New Orleans area • Facilitate Monday morning volunteer orientation • Oversee housing facilities for long-term volunteers Financial Oversight • Work with the presbytery office to administer and account for the finances related to this project • Become familiar with the operational budget and the general ledger chart of accounts associated with it • Approve all office and construction expenditures, to include assigning the appropriate account number to each expense • Manage requests for homeowner unmet needs • Oversee purchase of equipment and tools for Project Homecoming Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, management or other relevant field. Master’s preferred. At least 5 years work experience Experience in program administration, management, or staff supervision preferred Excellent organizational skills Communicates well both written and verbally Self-directed, resourceful, flexible, dependable, honest, able to handle paperwork and work with a database Strong in conflict-resolution, is a problem-solver, enjoys working collaboratively, is a team-player. Ability to work well with a variety of people and volunteers in a faith-based initiative that witnesses to God’s love and grace. Willingness to learn about and respect the polity and governance of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Able to build networks and relationships across individuals, churches, social service groups. Strong skills in recruiting and working with volunteers and churches. This position is supervised by the Associate Presbyter for Congregational Development and Disaster Recovery (Pro Tem) and is responsible to the Presbytery of South Louisiana for fulfilling the expectations of this position.
